On our way back from Houston, we stopped at Frank's Restaurant for lunch. Food was great. We had made plans to stop by this town to see the beautiful churches they are known for. Schulenburg is known as the "Official Home of the Painted Churches". We pass through here many times on our way to Houston and had been wanting to visit these churches. Today was a good day so we visited three of the five churches. These churches have a lot of history and they are just beautiful. Enjoy the pictures.
The first we visited was St. Mary's Catholic Church which was established by Austrian settlers in the 1800s. This Church has been placed in the National Registry of Historic Places.
This Church is so beautiful. On to the next one. They are only a few miles from each other.
This is a very simple church and it reminds me of the old church in Driscoll, where we grew up.
The Freyburg United Methodist Church was established by German settlers in the 1800s.
I took a picture of a picture of the church grounds.
On to the third.
These two are side alters.....just beautiful, too.
This coffin was close to the confessional and it took me by surprised as I walked back to the back of the church.
Looking up as I walk to the back of the church. The organ pipe....
This is used for Baptisms.
Back out to the grounds....
Drove around the back of the church to the Cemetery....
This was an awesome tour and will complete the rest of it on another trip....
