Good-Bye Sweet Charlie

035

On December 30, 2013, Charlie Brown crossed the Rainbow Bridge in to Doggie Heaven to join his companions Moxie (Rottweiler), Buddy (Rottweiler) and Major (Boxer).  Charlie outlived them all but how he missed them when they went to Doggie Heaven.

Charlie was a very very special pet as he came to us in January 2002, when My Sister, Lupe Aleman, gave him to us.  We brought him home the day we buried her, January 25, 2002.  He had been her companion throughout her fight with cancer and always sat on her lap or at her side.  He gave her so much joy, so now you know why Charlie was so Special!

Charlie adjusted with us almost immediately and we made him feel like he was the king of our home.  That first summer we traveled up to Alberta, Canada and Charlie was very nervous traveling.  He would pace the front seat, going from me to Manuel and kind of hiding under Manuel’s arms.  He would find comfort there and would get rest there.  By the time we arrived in Calgary, he was pretty comfortable riding and grew to love the 5th wheel.  He found his favorite spot and he was right at home then. He traveled most of the United States in the 12 years he lived with us!  What a life!

He became a good traveling companion but we always felt guilty leaving him in the RV while we went sightseeing.  As he got older, he spent time with Corina and Quincy, her Yorkie.  Charlie and Quincy became good friends.  We took turns sitting with Quincy when Corina traveled also, so both Yorkies spent a lot of time together.  Larissa and Arianna also watched Charlie during his time with us.  Arianna was so attached to him….

In the last couple of years, Charlie lost his sight, hearing and his appetite.  He began to loose his will to live, having a hard time getting around and barely getting out of his bed.  We figured that Charlie was about 17 or 18 years old on his death as he had belonged to Christina, Lupe’s daughter, before Lupe got him.  It got to be very hard seeing him struggle daily.

I took Charlie to see Quincy on December 30th.  Quincy is loving on him….as he always did.

Corina sent me a beautiful poem called “A Pet’s Plea” and when I read these lines, I decided to make decisions.

“And my friend, when I am very old, and no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going.  I am not having any fun.  Please see that my trusting life is taken gently.”

Charlie is terribly missed and always will be. We will always remember the wonderful memories he left us!

Rest In Peace, Sweet Charlie Brown!
