Fort Monroe on the Chesapeake Bay, VA

We are now back at the RV. Robert and Family will be coming over for dinner. We got some chicken and I made some beans and fideo. We are enjoying their company a lot.
We are on the Chesapeake Bay off the Atlantic Ocean. Robert and Family live about 15 minutes away.
Rain or shine, I am out taking pictures.....there is no stopping me. Love it out here.

We toured a museum of the Fort. Very interesting.......during Jefferson Davis times......these were the water ways he and his soldiers protected.
This is the museum. They would shoot from these windows....
The harbor now...
Cannon......note the slanted tree. Beautiful area with many parks.
This is actually base housing now. Isn't this just awesome?Very old catholic church on base. It is called Saint Mary Star of the Sea.
Old, old buildings.......
More of the same....note the cannons on the roof tops.
This was the prison where Jefferson Davis was confined.
Manuel in front of a soldier display at the Museum.
This museum is in a large bunker style complex.

You have to drive in this tunnel to get to the museum. Interesting.....very narrow and low.
It is very low clearance. The SUV got thru okay.
More base housing. These homes are very old but just beautiful.

Another church on the museum grounds.
More base housing. and more.....
and more.
A gazebo by the Ocean. So peaceful here.
The Chamberlin Hotel is huge. Manuel and I will try to go have lunch there one day.
Our spot on New Hampshire Lane. The RV Park's name is The Colonies. They only have 13 spaces and each is named after the 13 colonies. Full hookups and rent is cheap! Robert found us this RV park. He called and reserved us a spot and then drove us here. It is a beautiful place.
You can barely see our RV thru the trees. We are having a great time, even though it has rained since we got here. We will be out all day tomorrow. So much history here in Virginia and so much to see.
Note the days of Fort Monroe's beginnings.....1609. It is a gorgeous military base but it is set for closure in 2012 because of base realignment. What a shame! It has been one of the very best military bases we have visited and we have seen many.
We were back thru the tunnel from Virginia Beach to Fort Monroe. It looks so bright in there but still scary for me. Notice the height of the 18 wheeler in front of us. Ay, Ay, Ay!
Starting into the tunnel.........Ay Chihuahua!
Pictures I took enroute to Fort Monroe.

Beautiful Atlantic Ocean...people are out there. We saw several men fishing!

We followed Robert through these beautiful and colorful roads. He showed us a shorter route.
We followed Robert, Yvette and Joel. Beautiful scenery! Couldn't have asked for better guides!
