Brother in Branson, Missouri

My brother, Jesse Aleman is very active with Veteran Functions and holds the annual Driscoll Veterans Event.  He does a great job with this every year.  Driscoll has a Korean War Killed in Action Soldier (Leonel Aleman) and a Vietnam Missing In Action Soldier (Richard Garcia) and they are honored yearly.

The 281st Assault Helicopter Company had their reunion in Branson Missouri a couple of weeks ago and they invited him to be their Guest Speaker.  What an honor!

Richard Garcia, who is honored yearly in Driscoll, was part of the 281st Assault Helicopter Company when he went missing in Vietnam.  My Brother, Jesse has invited the 281st Assault Helicopter Company to the Driscoll Event and they have attended several years.  We had the privilege of meeting several of these soldiers and their spouses and what a pleasure that was.  We are so thankful to all our Veterans!

Jury Duty

I was summoned to jury duty so I headed to Downtown San Antonio.  I knew this would be a day of sitting around and waiting.  There were at least 1000 people summoned on this day!  By 9 am they had picked groups of 75 and I was in the third group called on.  We were taken upstairs to a jury room and waited there another 2 hours then released for a 30 minute lunch break.

There was a lot of activity going in to the jury room and also coming out while we waited.  Finally, the Judge calls us in and in the presence of two attorneys, we are told what has been going on while we waited.  The lawyers have been negotiating and finally they decide to settle out of court.  Wow!

We were thanked for our service, given a certificate for being present and told we would receive a $6 check in the mail.

We were released and I headed home.  What a Day!  I should not be called again for another 3 years.

This is the new addition to the courthouse.    The historical courthouse is the red building on the left with a green roof.

Grandparents Day with Arianna

Friday was Grandparents’ Day at Wilderness Oak from 8 to 9:30 am.  Arianna was very excited that we would come spend time with her and that we would get to meet Ms. Acosta, her teacher.  She is very happy with this teacher.

Labor Day Weekend

Mary Boggs and Jesse Soto called us and said they would be in New Braunfels, River Road, for the weekend.  We made a trip there on Saturday for a visit with them.  Manuel Jr. and the Girls went with us.  They enjoyed being in the river.  It was a hot day so the cool water was good.

Trip to Casino

Manuel has not felt good most of the summer but he has been wanting to go to a casino.  Yesterday, he told me he wanted to go to Coushatta since he felt good and was without fever for a couple of days and had no pain.  So I got on the phone and made reservations to go on a tour bus trip for an overnight trip to Kinder, LA.  We had to be at the bus stop at 5:30 am for a 6:30 am take off.  We will return tomorrow evening.

We made two stops along the way so it was a pretty good trip.

We had two Lady Drivers.  This is one of them.  Did not get a picture of the other one.

It rained most of the way to Kinder and most of the way back.  We even got a little rain in San Antonio.

Here we go to have some fun!  Manuel did pretty good the first two hours we were there.  His  must have known why he wanted to come do a little gambling.  I came out even but we both had a very nice time and it sure was nice to get away at least for a little while.

I had told Janet Lambe we were on our way to Kinder as we drove through Houston.  By the time we got to the casino, Janet Bechard was texting us.  They were at the casino already and found out they were only a couple of rooms from where we were staying.  We made plans to meet and they came over to our room for a little while.  We then went to dinner and the played….

It was really nice to see Janet & Joe as we have not seen any of our friends in a good while.

We also made plans to to meet the Bechards for breakfast in the morning before they head home.  Our bus will take off at 1:30 pm from the casino.  This means that we will go through Houston at around 5 pm (traffic hour).

Breakfast meeting with the Bechards at Café Grande!  Yes, Joe, Café Grande!!

We were in heavy traffic going home, as expected.  We ended getting home at 10:30 pm as we had two passenger stops to make.  We were pretty tired when we got home.  Manuel was exhausted but he was so glad we had made the trip.
