Yesterday, Linda made arrangements for me to ride with Jeanie and her family to ride into Antonito to ride the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad into Chama, NM.
Manuel did not want to go so it was nice of her to offer me. We arrived at the Antonito Railroad Station at about 9:30 for a 10 am ride. I have not mentioned that the temperature here has been beautiful: low 80 during the day and 40 at night.
Here is Jeanie and her Family. They are from Waco, TX and we met at the Lodge when we first arrived.
We are set to go......
We are given an overview of the scenic railroad.....
Going thru Southern Colorado....
We make a stop to load up some water for the steam engine...
The beautiful mountain passes...
The snack bar....
Like I said before, over the rivers and through the woods.... breathtaking sights!
We made an hour stop at the Osier, Colorado station for a delicious lunch which was included in our fare.
This station used to be a Toll Station back in the day.
From Osier to Chama, I decided that I would ride in the open car... It was dusty but cool and got some awesome pics....
This train departs Osier to Antonito as we depart to Chama....
This is an awesome site....
The Caboose....
We made another stop for water before we got to Chama and here is this man and his dog....
Beautiful scenery....saw deer and elk along the way...
oh, and over the bridges....
Another water tank.
People waving all along the way but these are at the Rio Chama RV Park...
Our arrival in Chama.
It seemed that all the workers stopped to wave.
We rode a tour bus back into Antonito which was a nice ride, too.
Back at the park, on the Conejos River. It is a beautiful sight.
We have had a great time while visiting Linda and John. We thank them both and also thank Ed, Linda's Brother, who told us about their park.
We will be moving on tomorrow to The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. We will be at the FamCamp there. More to come!
