This morning, the plan was to travel about 25 miles to Antonito, Colorado from the park. We then traveled to Chama, New Mexico which is also 25 miles from the park.
These pictures are just traveling from one State/Town to the other through the Rio Grande National Forest. This is a beautiful drive.
We followed the Conejo River all the way.....
We made a stop as we drive through La Manga Pass, which has 10,230 ft in elevation. Breath taking views all through here.
Then we made a stop as we drove through Cumbres Pass which has 10,022 ft in elevation. We made several stops along our drive.
Just drove a few miles and we were into Northern New Mexico.
We had also followed the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Rail all along our way. I was hoping we would get a glimpse of the train on the move and we did.
As we drove, we saw a herd of Elk....they were feeding off the road....
Many farms and ranches along the way....
this guy is carrying a heavy load of logs as we drove one of the passes.....
I bet he is glad he has made it up and down this mountain pass....
We really had a great day driving through the mountains...more to come.
