Yesterday we made plans to tour at least three areas in the Des Moines, Iowa area.
Our first stop was The Birthplace of John Wayne in Winterset, Iowa.
He lived in this home until the age of 7 when his parents moved.
We were not allowed any photos in the 4 room museum but there were hundreds of photos and memorabilia of The Duke.
This is a big statue of him on John Wayne Drive but I could not take a picture that was not dark....
I took this close up and it came out pretty good.
As we enter the museum area, they have this big poster of him.
His home was very small but has been restored to look very nice.
The Walk of Bricks.....some Texas there. The outhouse. There was no plumbing in the house.
A view of homes across the street. Very small, modest homes.
These are all taken inside the gift shop....
We drove around this small Iowa town....The beautiful 1876 Madison County Courthouse.
The town square....very nice looking town.
We made a quick stop at this Old Ben Franklin....
We had lunch at the Northside Cafe....good but not the best.
Then we went to a couple of the Bridges of Madison County but I will post those later. We came back to the city park.
Janet and I both thought that Delicious Apple had originated in Washington but this says different.
Then up the hill on the park to the Clark Tower.....
Heading back downhill....
Winterset, Iowa is a nice town to visit. We enjoyed our visit here. Will post the Bridges next.
