Dead Horse Point State Park

We traveled only a few more miles to view this park.  It is canyon where back in the day, they would round up wild horses into a corral-like canyon.  They would pick the best horses, taking them and leaving others behind.  Many horses supposedly died in this canyon.   The Colorado River loops around the canyon....This area was just unbelievable....Amazing!

So now we have seen Crazy Horse in South Dakota and now we will see Dead Horse in Utah....  Well, maybe not a dead horse but where horses died.

The canyon is really deep....

There was no posting on what this is so we stopped back at the visitors center to ask.  The guide there was very knowledgeable and he explained that they were harvesting potassium and potassium chloride from this area as there is a sea thousands of feet below.  He explained that they have extracted a lot of salt from this area.  We thought they had plastic over these ponds but he said they are a special protector so the salt won't evaporate with the hot sun.  He says that at times they have drawn uranium and oil/minerals from other areas here.

This was very interesting...

We really enjoyed this self guided tour.  Hope you have enjoyed the pics as much as we enjoyed taking them.

Until tomorrow!  We are pretty tired from the walking and climbing!  Good night!
