Arlington National Cemetery

Our first stop today was at the Arlington National Cemetery.  This sacred resting place made such an impression on us back in 1986 that we just had to come back.  This is “America’s Shrine to those who honorably served our Nation”.  This is a 600 acre resting place.  May they RIP!  So Thankful to all Men and Women who have served our Country and have given us the freedom we enjoy.

I will post pictures of the National Cemetery first and then will devote a section to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier separately.

This is the Women in Military Service for America Memorial.

We boarded the shuttle and our guide gave us a very detailed history of this cemetery.

The Eternal Flame by the John F. Kennedy Grave.  The Flame has only gone off twice since it was lit in 1963.  The Guide said it went out during one hurricane and once again when some young girls intentionally put it out.

In 1986 when we visited here, Robert F. Kennedy rested next to JFK but now, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis rests next to JFK.  I was surprised to see that Robert F. Kennedy was moved quite a distance from JFK.  Two of the Kennedy children also rest next to the Kennedys.  John Kennedy Jr. does not rest here.
