United States Capitol

We arrived early at the National Mall area a found the perfect parking in front of the Capitol.  Being Saturday morning, the traffic was not bad when we arrived.  We were taken by golf cart right up to the capitol building.  After going through security, we entered this beautiful building.  Viewing it from the outside, we  could see all the work that is going on here.  Enjoy the pictures….

A lot of work is being done to the exterior of the dome.

We had a guided tour of the U.S. Capitol. We had a great and interesting one.  Manuel and I were here back in 1986 & not much has changed here at the Capitol.  It is as awesome as it was then.

The Rotunda was covered in plastic to protect the art and the flooring as work continues outside.

As you can see, scaffolds surrounds the Rotunda, as they repair the dome.

Down in the basement where all the statues are, appeared untouched.  Beautiful architecture.

On our visit in 1984, we were able to tour the area that houses the House of Representatives and Senate.  So sorry we did not get to see that since it is a Saturday.  That area was very interesting, too.

They have a lot of museum items here and pictures were not allowed.  We had a very good tour here.

Before we left the Capitol building, we had a delicious lunch.  Their cafeteria had a lot of food choices.  Great place; Great food!

Once out of the Capitol, all we had to do was call the driver that had brought us here to be transported back to the circle.  There we will take a tour bus to check out the sites.

A few pictures of the area.

We are really having a great time.  So much to see here.  Traffic has picked up but glad we don’t have to drive.
