We left the Coach this beautiful morning to go meet Bob & JoAnn for brunch then to tour the Hemingway Home. It is a beautiful sunny clear day.....
We met at the Six-Toed Cat Restaurant and the food was wonderful. This restaurant is named after the six toed cats that Hemingway owned and His house still has these cats. More on this later in the post.
The guys get tickets....
This is the entry courtyard to the house.
The Dedication of the Home.... Entry way staircase....
Ernest Hemingway and his best friend and Boat Captain, Gregorio Fuentes, a Cuban.
Drake Rodriguez, from Austin, TX was a very good guide. He said he is studying history and told us of his love of history. You could tell he loved his job.
Hemingway's bedroom. He allowed the cats to roam freely. I believe he said that he had 64 six toed cats. You can see them laying around in what used to be his bed.
A look from second story porch...beautiful yard. His paradise.
This place is used for special occasions. Tonight there will be a wedding here.
There is a porch all around the house. This is a very beautiful home.
A look at the entry courtyard from the second story porch.
Another sitting area......he had several on this 1 acre squared property.
This is looking at the home from the backyard. Hemingway purchased this house for $8K, which was what was owed by the previous owner in back taxes.
This is Hemingway's studio. This is where he spent a lot of time writing...
Some bronze statues of Hemingway...
Pictures of pictures I took of Hemingway. He was a very handsome man. Mr. Hemingway committed suicide at the age of 61 in 1961. He died of a single, self inflicted gun shot.
He was very upset when One of his Four wives had this swimming pool put in for the amount of $20K.
Information on the six toed cats....they have a vet come out to check them ALL out once a week and they are fed only the best of cat foods and snacks....they also have more insurance on them than many humans....
These cats are all named after movie stars. When they die, they have proper burial on the property.
These are some of the cat houses, in the same design as the Hemingway Home....There are a couple of cats sleeping in there.
Another cat house, different shape. There were many smaller cat houses on the grounds.
One FAT CAT!
Many cat paws....on sidewalks.
One sleepy cat on this lattice wall.
Two old guys resting while I walk the grounds and JoAnn visits the gift shop.
The plants are all so pretty here! Many flowers found on the grounds, too.
Lilly pads in several of the ponds.....
Yes, bananas, too. The shrimp plant.
Peeking at Manuel and Bob thru the plants....
This is a beautiful tree; not sure what it is.
This is the flower on the tree above.
This tree has a few pink blooms....
The beautiful bougainvillea grow everywhere here.
This was a very interesting tour.
These are a couple of pictures of the Lighthouse that is across the Hemingway's Home.
Beautiful keeper's Quarters ....
We parted ways with the Srutkas. They will go to another museum and we will just ride our scooters around town. More to come on the next post.
