Fort Pickens

We drove to Fort Pickens right along the Gulf Coast.   Beautiful drive.

Many of these sand dune areas are protected but others are not.

It is said that Geronimo was held here as a prisoner for 2 years.

Fort Pickens is the largest of four forts built to defend the Pensacola Bay.  It was built in 1829 and completed in 1834.  It was used until 1947.

This cannon could shoot up to 3.5 miles.

These are hidden rooms where they stored the gun powder.

There are bunkers all along the area.
