We took a drive into Ogden, which is about 5 miles from Hill AFB. It is a beautiful drive there. We visited Union Station, where they have the Train Museum. I love trains so this was a good time to take a close look at them. This train engine was on the way there, on base.
The scenery is awesome and it is so cool....
We arrived at Union Station....they have a beautiful horse statue display and will celebrate Pioneer Days soon. I will show you the horse statues in the next posting....I was mesmerized with them.....
There are many trains displayed on the grounds of Union Station and below are pictures.
This had a bunk and bathroom so it was sleeping quarters.....
This one has a turbine....don't know what this was used for. Just got note from Ed, Manuel's military friend from Wyoming, that this is a Rotary Snowplow (snowblower). He has seen plenty of these.
Our friends, Dave and Sandy who live in Minnesota, said the same as Ed. He says his brother, who must work for the RR, has had to cut thru 15 feet or more of snow to clear tracks for trains.
This was a really old train....so awesome!
They are all stored under this shed so some of the pictures are obstructed...
This was the oldest, built in 1939; retired in 1957. We had never seen one like it.
same train....
This is the Winter Olympic Torch Car, originally built for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and then rebuilt for Salt Lake City to use in 2002. It traveled 3000 miles across 11 states with the flame lit while it traveled at 70 mph.
This is the way mail was delivered. We are showing our age but we remember it going thru Driscoll!
This was an Army Hospital Unit car. They still had stretchers in it and other equipment.
This was used while they were repairing tracks....Check out the storage on back....
this one is being restored but was used at the Ben Spike Centennial Expo....
We will check out the City Trolley tomorrow and maybe take a tour of the city....
We then head out to 25th Street!

Connie,
The turbine is a snow blower used to clears the rail road trackes. Alot of times the tracks have to cut thru a hill and they can get filled up with snow. My brother has had to cut thru drifts 15 feet or more.
