Steilacoom, WA

Our plan this morning was to drive 5 miles to the Trader Joe's at University Place and then 5 more miles to Steilacoom and just enjoy the beaches there.   We took our ice chest so our food would stay cool...

We drove along the Puget Sound....

The railroad train bridge...

We arrived at Steilacoom and head to the ferry dock....

 

We met a lady very nice lady here.   She used to work at McNeil Island Correction Center right across for here.  She recently retired and says she comes here everyday.....I guess she misses her job, huh?!  She seems to know many of the workers coming off or going on the McNeil Island Ferry.   

I was getting ready to walk down to this this when Manuel tells me to read the sign.....

Oops!   He had been talking to this lady while I was taking pictures.....No, I don't want to go there!!!

 

This road leads to the Ferry that goes to the Maximum Security Prison.  Right next to it is the Ferry that goes to Anderson Island....

This is the closest I could get to the prison complex.  The lady says that this is for sex offenders and most of these prisoners will never get out of here.   She says it is a small Alcatraz.   On the other side of the mountain/island is a prison for non-sexual offenders. 

While we were there, this van appears with a prisoner.  This was a handicapped, elderly man that may have been transported here after being hospitalized.   That is what this lady told us.  As soon as it got here, the Prison Guards surround the vehicle....

You can see a little of the man being walked to the Ferry area....

Then a County car shows up with another prisoner....they remove him from the car and walk him to the ferry.

This is kind of freaky but very interesting.....we did not know there was a prison here.

The rail runs right along here.   Here comes what looks like a truck pulling some rail cars which has a CAT.

We leave this area to go check out Steilacoom Beach....

We drove all along the coastline....

Back on the road to McChord, we follow the Puget Sound...

There are quite a few people swimming here!

This was a beautiful drive....as all others have been.   Great Day!!
