Today, we had planned to rest since we did so much walking yesterday. At noon, Manuel asked if I wanted to go for a drive to Olympia, so, of course, I said yes. The day has been overcast and cool all day. It was 61 degrees at 1 pm. There are so many bridges here; this is crossing the Nisqually River.
The drive is only 20 miles away so we have arrived on Capitol grounds.
The Washington State Capitol.
A view as we enter the building.
A view of the lighting in the Lobby...
A statue of Marcus Whitman, a trained physician who brought many settlers to Washington.
Mother Joseph who raised funds to build hospitals and churches.
The Rotunda. The lamp hangs on a 101 foot chain and weighs 5 tons! It is beautiful. All the light fixtures in this building were created Tiffany Studios in New York. The rooms all have marble from Alaska.
Looking down at Manuel. Notice all the beautiful marble.
Our visit and tour of the Reception Room. This is where they have the Inaugural Ball, etc.
This young boy was from Florida. The guide asked for a volunteer to play the 125 year old piano.
Looking down to the first floor as we walk to the Senate Chamber.
This is where the Senators gather to vote and meet....they allow spectators.
More Tiffany lighting. The architecture of the wall is so beautiful.
The ceiling....
The name of each County is the trim below the ceiling.
The State Seal....
Then we walk to the House Chamber....
This almost looks like a theatre...
More of the beautiful architecture.
George Washington has a shiny nose, that is because everyone that goes by touches his nose...
Then we walk in to the Governor's office, the reception area, of course.
Just a look at one of the halls, they are deserted except for the tourists...
This is the Temple of Justice directly in front of the State Capitol.
Beautiful flowers ..... At Tribute....Statue is below.
More of the beautiful grounds and monuments....
This was the Insurance Building....
The Capitol overlooks the Capitol Lake on the southern tip of Puget Sound.
We had spotted this nice looking restaurant...Wagner's European Bakery and Cafe. We wanted to have a soup and sandwich.....
A very nice place....
We headed back the 20 miles to McChord. This was a nice outing....hope the sun comes out tomorrow.
