Our Tour Guide, Brian, was a telling us about the history of Asheville.
Brian is a school teacher but a tour guide during the weekend.
These are homes in the Historic Monford District.
This is the Thomas Wolfe Home, one of literatures most famous landmarks. He was a writer.
Narrow streets either downhill or uphill....
Nice weeping willow trees on the mountain side....
This building was the Edith Vanderbilt's , Grove Park Hotel and Spa. I think he said it was 2nd best in the World.
A beautiful crucifix....
The Basilica of St. Lawrence.
The steeple of a Baptist Church.
We saw several of these signs....pretty neat.
Many people ride their bikes here. Actually Lance Armstrong's trainer lives here.
Downtown streets.
Beautiful buildings....
This is a hub for the rail systems...note the blue mountains in the far background.
George Vanderbilt built these homes for his married workers....today they are all shops.
Another church.
These were Vanderbilt warehouses....now the River Art District.
Artsy bus bench!
This was neat...do it yourself dogwash....
A beautiful small church.
Today was a beautiful day!
After the tour, we headed to the Mellow Mushroom Restaurant.....the balls here are bowling balls!
The wood mushroom....
Janet sits on this car as I take pictures.
A huge, old, old mixer... A colorful swing....
The Lambes...... http://esparzacm.blogspot.com
The Pizza Man.... The braided beard on this guy is really really long!
Back at the Coach, we relax, plan our trip for tomorrow and then play dominos.
