There is not much to do in Bakersfield but one popular site it the Buck Owens Crystal Palace. Besides being a museum, it is also a Theatre, Restaurant and Country Store. We found a lot of country & western history here.
A young Buck!
This mural is displayed as you enter the building...
At the entrance, they also have bronze statues of many country music stars....
Buck Owens... Bob Wills....
My favorite, George Strait. Merle Haggard...
Elvis... Garth Brooks...
George Jones... Willie Nelson...
Johnny Cash... Flaco Jimenez' accordion...
This is the accordion used by Flaco (Santiago) Jimenez when they recorded "Streets of Bakersfield". Flaco is from San Antonio and we see him around town often. He is a well known accordionist....
Below are many of Buck Owens' outfits....Pretty elegant!
There was a lot of memorabilia displayed.
The Restaurant, which is part of the museum, is beautiful. It has two floors but the upper floor was closed.
The Band Stand....The buffet was displayed on the dance floor.
This is the 50 foot bar which displays the famous Nudie-built "Elvis Car" hanging on the wall behind the bar in the saloon. It has the famous longhorns in front....
Check out the interior...pretty snazzy!
Pistols displayed on the front and back fenders....
and then the rifle....
Sorry, these pictures are overexposed....
This man had a lot of history..... Buck Owens died at the age of 77.
This was a great place to visit. If you ever go thru Bakersfield, it is worth stopping at the Museum.
Tomorrow, we will drive about 150 miles to Barstow, CA. We will stay at the Marine Base one night.
